“That space (floodplain forests on the bank of the old riverbed – ed.) had such an enormous power, when I first approached it I felt as at some sacred place, as if I had unknowingly found myself in a meditation. It was a new experience to me. A very unique experience of space and the connection of its vertical and horizontal dimensions, of the sky and clouds passing by. The branches might slightly recall my drawings; however, I did not aim to return to my original works. I rather hoped to create something brand new under the influence of this experience, something that will document these few days we spent together at the symposium.”
