The IN SITU Symposium was founded in 2017. Its aim is to create o group of artists, which supports their individual development and progress, and also supports their coworking.
In their work, the artists focus on the local specificities (natural and social) of a given environment, on the critical treatment of global ecological and social issues through local symptoms: through the artistic thematization of local specificities (natural, social, cultural and architectural-building phenomena of the surroundings and the village itself) to contribute to the social discussion. We established contacts with various experts, regional historics, environmentalists, who can offer informations to get know the issuers in depth.
Our aim is a certain decentralisation of visual art, an artistic reflection of to the ecological, cultural and social issues of the environment in art works. Vojka nad Dunajom, later Chľaba and the surrounding nature became a temporary centre of artistic creation during the symposium. We strive to use pro-environmentally oriented artistic practices and to work with an emphasis on authentic contact with nature and the local population. The aim is to highlight the transience of present natural values, the relationship between people and nature, the social specificities and issues of the village and its surroundings. Based on the conviction that this type of art also has potential for environmental protection, we open a discussion by artistic thematization of certain issues.
The members of the symposium and the group are artists, architects and writers who focus on site specific art, ephemeral objects, installations and performances. The resulting works are ephemeral, made from local materials, and are presented as photos, objects and audio-visual documents. We strive to minimize the intervention in the environment, but to maximize the transmission of the message.
