KINGA VÁCLAV: FIRST PERCEPTIONS

“Until now, I didn’t particularly know the landscape of Helemba, apart from the obvious basic touristic knowledge; I don’t know how life is here, nor the peculiarities and the problems. My first work in Helemba tries to react to this: how can I approach this landscape – both literally and figuratively, i.e. to map the transportational and accessibility options. It is striking that one of the features of the area, also derived from its geographical features, is that several routes are linear, they are located close and parallel to each other, sometimes they collide with each other and slide through the landscape: the Danube flows, the train rushes over, and since the opening of the bridge, vehicle and bicycle traffic also cross the village. Of course, this is a process welcomed from the point of view of tourism and the life of the village/region – but it also has its drawbacks.”

The various video recordings were made while traveling on various typical means of transport in the area: train, boat-swimming, car, bicycle. Each of them approaches the village following the course of the Danube, thus giving a theoretically comprehensive, yet deformed picture of Helemba and its surroundings. The accompanying landscapes were also cut from these videos.
