NORBERT FUNCZIK: THE LUCKY ONES

In his work, Nobert Funczik focused on the issue of water scarcity and drought, stressing the importance of drinking water as a strategic raw material. He regularly watered a selected, strictly delimited area, while the surrounding area was dependent on the natural intake of water from rainfall. The selected area remained vibrant and green while the surrounding area dried up in the hot and dry summer months. The work reflects local specificities: water regulation, dams, i.e. total control over the movement of water in the environment. The strict delimitation is a reference to selective distribution: regions extremely affected by water scarcity fall into regression, while regions with moderate affliction have a chance to develop. This results in considerable social inequality and tensions.
