NORBERT FUNCZIK

During his walks in Vojka nad Dunajom, the author has been observing the tree and its slow breakdown for years. It had only one living branch left, its trunk was just a hollow torso with a big hole. Attempting a certain reconstruction of the tree’s crown, the first composition was very emotional. Later the artist proceeded to rationalise the design, knowing that man is not capable of 100% replicating the complex geometry of the tree’s crown system, nor of producing a material that would artificially mimic the original material (wood) of the tree. However, every organism is based on a precise system of DNA and fractals, mathematical and geometric laws that can be expressed in precise numbers. Therefore, the original composition was transformed into a system based on precise proportions. Viewed from above, it was a square, and the length of its side was determined by the ratio of 2/3 and 1/3. On the various axes, the form of A and X are shown, with the precisely determined points of intersection. At first view, the fractal is not very noticeable, but it is there in the background. This simplified geometry expresses the initial geometry of the original object – the tree.
